baby's first arts
meet my obsession, his name is edward; his name is also johnny, and i will laminate him to my school case, like a good little fangirl.
this was the first time i'd ever drawn anything other than a rough sketch, and in 3.5 hours. i'm guessing i was possessed or something?? cos damn. DAMN. i don't even care that i phoned the hair in; who cares about the hair anyway — look at that lighting!

picked up goethe's faust for the illustrations by harry clarke [all praise be to he of the fiddly bits and gorgeous hands] and promptly obsessed with mephistopheles, this illustration in particular.
i got my first set of *very expensive* technical pens for the express purpose of reproducing this work. bless my parents — they wouldn't let me talk to boys, but they did provide me with good art materials with which to express my frustrations.
this is where i started to learn that i prefer 'unfinished' pieces. my school case was once more adorned with weird art that weirded everybody out.

in a very deep, very dark hole of depression, i sat down with my second-favourite photo of johnny depp, nin's broken on repeat, and just started drawing, stopping when i was intuitively done. it looks unfinished, but it is definitely complete.
i wish i had better photos, because the layers and layers of delicate cross-hatching really is exquisite.
